The Project
The goal of this project was to use a blank CMS platform, and to code and design this site for a sustainable business model while keeping the users in the forefront. The blogazine's focus was to give the users dynamically changing content while making it easy and enjoyable to digest. We were tasked to create this project by using a blank Wordpress theme.
The Problem
The problem was how to create a content strategy, advertising and monetization strategy that would be enjoyable for the user and profitable for the magazine as well.
The Solution
Defining a content architecture that gives the users what they need by focusing on the tasks each user is taking on and designing the pages to those tasks. Also a three tiered monetary strategy to keep a sustainable business model.
Defining Content Architecture
personas, task flows, sitemap
Wireframes
On this project I worked in an agile development process creating wireframes in the browser, user testing then iterating. Since I had a magazine look and feel created to begin with, creating a cohesive web presence was the simple part. Creating a content strategy was the the challenge.
Content Strategy
The most difficult part was creating a content strategy that would drive both traffic and revenue to the company. My goal was to create a logical hierarchy on the page so users could quickly complete their task. I started with the homepage and created additional pages from there.
Monetary Strategy
A 3 tiered monetary strategy allows users to have a cost effective plan.
Tier 1 $ : small home screen advertising
Tier 2 $$ : advertising on posts page slideshow or on posts pages
Tier 3 $$$ : featured advertising on homepage & advertising on post pages
